What is the Canada Dental Benefit?

The Canada Dental Benefit program will provide eligible parents or guardians in St. Albert with up to $650 tax-free per year for two years to cover their child's dental expenses (under 12). This program is available to families without access to private dental insurance and with an adjusted family net income under $90,000. 

Who qualifies for the Canada Dental Benefit?

  • Your child was born on or after December 2, 2010 (under 12 years old as of December 1, 2022)

  • Your child receives dental care services in Canada between October 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023

  • Your child does not have access to a private dental insurance plan

  • Your child's dental costs are not fully covered by another dental program provided by any level of government

  • You are the only parent or caregiver receiving the CCB for your child as of December 1, 2022 or you have shared custody of your child and receive half of the CCB for your child as of December 1, 2022

  • You filed your 2021 taxes

  • Your spouse or common-law partner filed their 2021 taxes or You do not have a spouse or common-law partner as of December 1, 2022

  • Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000 in 2021

When can my family apply for the new government dental programs?

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will begin receiving applications and processing payments for the benefit starting December 1, 2022, and will be retroactive for dental expenses paid after October 1, 2022.

How much money does my child qualify for?

The program will provide payments of up to $650 per child per year for families with adjusted net income under $90,000 per year and without private dental coverage:

  • $650 would be provided for each eligible child if the family’s adjusted net income is under $70,000.
  • $390 would be provided for each eligible child if the family’s adjusted net income is between $70,000 and $79,999.
  • $260 would be provided for each eligible child if the family’s adjusted net income is between $80,000 and $89,999.

The fastest way to apply for the Canada dental plan program will be to apply online using your CRA My Account. Make sure you’re ready to apply.

Applications for the Canada Dental Benefit will open on December 1, 2022.
