How Do You Use Myobrace?

Myobrace generally consists of 4 stages of dental treatment, aptly titled “T1 (Habit Correction)”, “T2 (Arch Development)”, “T3 (Dental Alignment)”, and “T4 (Retention)”. Each stage has its own unique Myobrace oral tray to be worn at night when sleeping and for at least one hour each day. Treatment can begin as soon as negative habits are recognized, and treatment it catered to individual needs based on how severe and engrained the poor myofunctional habits are.

T1 – Negative Habit Correction

This stage provides a tray to teach the wearer proper swallowing techniques, the correct resting place of the tongue in the mouth, to keep lips closed, and to breathe through the nose rather than the mouth. Although individually these may seem simple and inconsequential, they are actually fundamental to the proper development of the jaw as well as the position of teeth when growing in.

T2 – Dental Arch Development

Many children who have underdeveloped narrow upper jaws may need dental devices to widen the arches to provide enough room for your teeth and tongue. Historically, some of the devices used include Biobloc and Farrell Bent Wire System (BWS), but Myobrace has the Myolay system. Myolay is perfect for younger patients to help healthily develop their upper jaw, and is used in conjunction with Myobrace.

T3 – Overall Dental Alignment

When children are finding their final adult teeth erupting between the ages of 7-12, “Myobrace for Teens” is used to align teeth as they grow into place. This is one of the most crucial steps in Myobrace, so compliance is key, and proper wear can result in perfect alignment without the need for braces. However, in more severe cases, braces may still be needed, but will need to be worn for a much shorter period of time than if Myobrace was not used.

T4 - Retention

Once braces are removed, a retainer is required to ensure retention of perfect positioning. However, the Myobrace treatment often ensures more stable results, eliminating the need for a permanent fixed retainer that usually comes with braces treatments. Instead, the Myobrace retainer is used temporarily to further engrain proper myofunctional techniques and avoid relapse of teeth positioning.

How Long Do I Use Myobrace For?

These activities will further engrain proper myofunctional habits, ensuring correct dental and jaw development.

Myobrace is for anyone who has developed poor myofunctional habits and looks to improve their teeth, jaws, and overall health. We can begin dental treatment for individuals as young as 3 years old, as soon as poor habits are recognized. Our office believes in natural teeth straightening. Myobrace uses a series of oral appliances and exercises to improve myofunctional habits and aid in developing the face, jaw, and teeth. With a removable appliance you only need to wear overnight and for 1-2 hours during the day, you can develop and align your teeth and jaw discreetly and comfortably.

Myobrace is an orthodontic technique focused on training and treatment during development, whereas Invisalign and braces fix a problem after it has already developed. It is also a removable appliance, unlike braces, and is primarily worn overnight and only briefly during the day, unlike Invisalign. Furthermore, Myobrace treatment can start as early as age 3, much sooner than any braces or Invisalign treatment.

Typical treatment age(s) ranges between 5-15 years old, but we can begin treatment in children as young as 3 years! Once bad myofunctional habits are recognized, we can begin treatment, so the sooner the better!
